To meet the needs of our clients, Cumberland Accounting, CPAs was established as an Illinois CPA firm in 1994 to provide accounting, tax, and business advisor services to corporations, small businesses and individuals throughout Chicago. We provide quality service for our clients by staying abreast of accounting and tax law changes and by taking a proactive interest in the smooth financial management of your business. At Cumberland Accounting we make it our goal to understand the individual needs of every client including addressing industry specific challenges, compliance needs and standard tax practices.

Dario Zanichelli, Jr., C.P.A., President

An accounting professional since 1994, Dario has come to understand the specific and unique needs of his clients through a comprehensive approach to accounting. Dario's esteemed reputation is the direct result of the client satisfaction he provides with his professionalism, attention to detail and strong work ethics. Dario derives professional enjoyment from meeting one-on-one with clients and being personally involved with their accounting needs. Dario often works with bankers, financial planners and other professionals in order to bring invaluable service to the client. In addition, he often assists other accountants and their clients with complex accounting issues. Dario is a DePaul University graduate and obtained his Certified Public Accounting designation from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dario is a memeber of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois Certified Public Accountant Society and the National Association of Tax Professionals. Dario has been married to his wife Jennifer since August 1997. Together, they live in the suburb of Arlington Heights with their twin boys Matthew and Michael.

The roots of Cumberland Accounting go back some 50 years, when the company it grew from was founded by George Castaldi. The partners who helped him form the company moved on to other endeavors at about the same time that George was joined by his son Frank. The Castaldis partnered with Dario Zanichelli, Sr. in 1984.

Around the same time the company was being founded, Dario Zanichelli, Sr. arrived in the United States with his parents from Reggio Emilia [Italy]. A teenager at the time, Dario taught himself English and went to work as a salesman for a manufacturing company. Through Italian organizations he was active in, Dario was introduced to George and his partner, and they made him an offer to work as a sales agent for them. From there, “he basically worked himself up to partner status with the rest of them, “ his son states, proudly.

“My father’s interest in becoming a business owner stemmed from his father’s business ownership,” Dario Jr. says. Dario’s father owned a bar, restaurant, ice cream parlor and a wine cork factory in Italy. “He was respected in the community and had a good business sense,” Dario Jr. says, “and those qualities flowed to my father.”

Dario Jr. came on board 10 years ago, bringing with him an accounting degree from DePaul University, adding CPA services to Cumberland.

All told, now there are four businesses under one roof, which include ReMax Cumberland Real Estate, First State Travel Agency and Cumberland Accounting.

“It’s a comprehensive, all-inclusive approach,” Dario explains. “It allows the client to deal with one firm” instead of traveling all over from an accountant to a financial adviser to a real estate agent.

It’s also a familial atmosphere, and not only because of the blood relations. “It’s a tight group,” Dario Jr. says, “We have a strong loyalty to one another, with a sense of family and shared heritage and culture.”
